While searching for an opportunity to expand upon the success of our existing purebred Red Angus operation we decided to establish a F1 cross breeding program that utilizes the complementary genetics of Fleckvieh Simmental. We retain the majority of the Red Angus heifer calves that we produce as purebred replacements. We cull our purebred herd rigorously to ensure that only superior mother cows remain in the purebred operation. Due to herd numbers alone numerous functional Red Angus females are transitioned into our F1 program. All of the crossbred male calves are all sold as steers in the fall while the F1 females are marketed privately as calves and as bred heifers. This cross continues to be very popular with countless beef producers.
